This residence on the Oregon Coast was designed to blend harmony with nature. The home was carefully sited so only one of the surrounding, majestic Spruce trees were removed. The same tree was used for the home’s central staircase spine. All landscaping was restored to its full native state. The construction materials came from either fully sustainable or recycled sources. Wood beams from a local mill were left rough-cut to reduce the amount of energy needed to process them. Bamboo was used on both the floor and countertops. All surfaces were finished with non-toxic resins, and the home uses a radiant floor heating system. Natural light floods each room. Windows are placed to fully capture panoramic ocean views and also to serve as a passive ventilation system.
